In this age of overnight shipping and QR-code restaurant menus, it’s rare to find a business that still runs on handshakes, good conversation, and customer service that feels like friendship. At Golden Steer Meats, that’s exactly how they still do business.
John Dick is proud to be a 2nd generation owner of the old-fashioned neighborhood butcher his parents opened in 1968 – and a firm believer that the way to grow your business is to build personal relationships with your patrons.
Over the years, the Accountability Services team has had the pleasure of building a relationship with John, too.
From sawdust to small business owner

Starting around the age of three, the shop became John’s second home. He has fond memories of playing with his toys on the sidewalk, grabbing an ice-cold bottle from the old Coca-Cola machine, getting to know the butchers by name, and eventually, pitching in to help run the family business.
One of his first job duties was sweeping up the sawdust when it was time to lay down a new layer. Of course, butcher shops these days no longer use sawdust – but if you visit Golden Steer Meats, you’ll still walk across the same floor laid down in the early ’70s.
Other things you’ll find that haven’t changed are the dedication to quality and connection that have defined their place in the Bellevue, WA and Woodinville, WA communities for over half a century.
In 2004, the business changed ownership, but the family legacy has been upheld as Golden Steer continues their tradition of care.
Working together to help John achieve his goals
“I love Accountability Services,” John told us the other day. “We’re a small business but you don’t treat us like one.”
Our relationship with Golden Steer began a while back when Sandi, a senior accountant and our IT director, strolled in to pick up ribeyes. It wasn’t a sales call, just a shopping trip. But since John becomes friends with all his customers, the next thing we knew, we were the butcher shop’s CPA.
P.S. Sandi still buys her meat there.
